How to detect the fake HID Lights?
Look for a Ballast AND Starter
All HID Lights require both. Most real kits come with two sets, one for each light. Our units have both the Ballast and Starter in one. Less space you have to find under your hood.
Internal Filament
If the bulb has any sort of a filament inside, it is not a HID bulb. HID bulbs contain only a small chamber filled with Xenon Gas. There is a large power line on the outside of the bulb that completes the circuit in HID bulbs, no filament inside of the bulb.
55W or 100W Bulb Power Rating
If the power rating include 55W or 100W -- again it isn't HID. HID bulbs use 35W, 32 or 50W. The 50W are brand new -- don't confuse these with the standard 55W bulbs.
Filter or Colored Lens
If the listing includes the words: "Filter" or "[color] lens". These are regular Halogen lights that are "filtered" or "changed" so they look like a white color with a bluish tint. All HID Bulbs are clear bulbs, The types of the Xenon Gas mixture gives you the different output colors. If the lens has a color to it than it is taking away from your lumens output (amount of light produced by the bulb). This defeats the whole purpose of going with HID.
